Some major factors to let you know your roof needs repair

Thursday, December 31st, 2009

Our roofs are one of the most important part of our homes.  It is what keeps the weather out of our homes.  It gives us shelter that is why people always refer to roofs over their heads. With it being so important it is good that roofs last so long usually. But there will be times actually when they get old and need to be fixed. Here are some basic things to look for to know if your roof needs to get repaired.

First of all if your roof is 20 years or even older, you can definitely have it inspected.  Once a roof starts getting that old there will be usually problems.  Most of my customers who call in to my San Diego roofing company are people who do have older roofs.  So once you know that your roof is getting older you should have it repaired.

The next thing you need to check for are the probably missing parts of your roof. Sometimes you can find in your roof missing shingles. Although not guaranteed to have a leak it is a good sign when things like that start to fall off.  I tell people in  my Carlsbad roofing company once they have parts of their roof falling off it is time to get it checked out.

The next thing that you definitely need to check for are leaks.  Of course you have to wait till it rains but small leaks usually mean big problems.  That is when we start to get a lot of calls in my Rancho Bernardo roofing company. The moment when rainy season is upon us is the very times when the calls seem to come in a lot.  The reason small leaks are problems is because it usually means there are more problems to come.At that very point you definitely need to have it inspected.

So there you have some of the main things to look for when you happen to have an older roof. You definitely need to take good care of them right away before they eventually become a bigger problem.

Why leaky roofs are not a good thing to have

Rain and snow come as winter season approaches.  Once it starts raining or snowing that is when we will notice any problems with our roofs. As long as the weather is fine no problem shows up on our roofs. But as soon as the weather becomes harsh the problems start showing up.Once that happens you would not only deal with a leaky roof but a lot more problems. In this article we would be tackling problems that a leaky roof can cause to your house.

So obviously the first problem that can happen when your roof leaks is water will get in your house.  There are many problems that this will cause.  In my San Diego roofing company I have seen ruined furniture.  Or I have seen wood furnitures getting damaged because they get soaked in water. This is the time when you would notice that the problems are more than just about water getting into your homes.

The next problem that I have seen when a roof starts to leak in my Carlsbad roofing company is weakened ceilings.I have seen whole roofs collapse because they are severely damaged already. Obviously this isn’t a good thing and the damages from that are even more.  It can break things when it falls and of course is very expensive to repair.

The final problem I Have seen a leaky roof cause in my Rancho Bernardo roofing company is mold. This might be the worst problem that can be caused by a leaky roof. This is not saying that the previous problems are not as bad.But these molds can now cause health problems to the people who are living in the house.  Mold in the air is not very healthy to breath and can cause a variety of breathing problems.

So as you can see a leaky roof is more than just water coming into your home.It brings more problems when left unattended. So make sure before the bad weather comes that you get your roof fixed.

How to know if your old roof needs to be replaced

Friday, November 20th, 2009

Our roofs that are over has so much meaning to us.Sometimes it is just a figure of speech to describe our houses that we live in.But the roof that is literally over us is so important as well. But the roofs we have can’t last forever so there will be a time when it has to be replaced. In this article we shall let you know how to check to see if your roof needs to be replaced.

First of all you need to know how old your roof is.  If you have owned it since it was built that is an easy question to answer. If on the other hand you purchased it used, then knowing how old isn’t so easy. But there are ways for you to find out it’s age.  Generally I tell all my clients of my San Diego roofing company if there roof is over 20 years old it needs to be replaced. This rule isn’t set in stone but it is a good measure to go by.

Next thing you have to find out is whether or not you have leaks. As your roof gets up there in years you will start to experience more leaks. If you start to have leaks going throughout your home with different areas of your roof that usually means you have to replace it.  That is why if a customer calls our Carlsbad roofing company with a leak problem we look to see if it needs to be replaced.

Finally if you have a shingled roof and you notice that the shingles are curled then it may need to be replaced. At the least what you will have to do is have a professional roofing service inspect the roof for you.  We do that all the time with our Rancho Bernardo roofing company.

So those were just some of the ways you can use to know if you have a roof that has to be replaced.Doing these few things will help you determine if you have to get your roof replaced.

Checking for roof leaks in your home

Sunday, November 15th, 2009

As the winter and the rain and snow season approaches for most people it is time to think about your roof. The roof is a part of your house that people really can’t do without. But really it is the area of the home that is overlooked by everybody.  The only time people notice it is if there is a leak or it needs to be replaced or repaired. But with winter approaching most people just won’t be able to wait for that.So here are a couple of ways you can use to check to find out if yuo have a leak in your roof.

First thing you want to do is make sure you know the difference between a leak and a condenstion spot.  We get calls all the time for my San Diego roofing company for people who think they have a leak. But the moment we do get out there what we see is that it was a condensation stain instead of a leak.  The easy way to tell is condensation is it doesn’t have a design.  On the other hand a true leak will be circular. So if the spot you find is circular in shape that is a sign that it is a leak.

The thing you want to check next are weak areas of your roof.Places such as chimneys are areas that are weak spots of the roof and it leaks there a lot.  In our roofing Oceanside service we always check those areas because it is so common that it leaks there. It is a quick fix by sealing that area and making sure there arent’ any openings.

Finally you are going to want to look for all the spots penetrated by a nail.A lot of times the people who put the roof in when they are nailing it in, those very nail spots aren’t sealed.  This is the cause of leaks that we find in my Rancho Bernardo roofing service. This is another simple fix you can do by finding it then sealing it.

So there you have the ways you can make sure you don’t have a leak this coming winter.

What you can do with your old roof

Sunday, August 9th, 2009

There will be the time when your house will be in need of a newer roof.  When that time comes you will have a couple of choices. You have the option of installing the new roof on top of the old roof.  Or you can strip the old roof and install the new roof fresh. This information here will take a look at both ways.

So when you are choosing between the two ways there are only two factors to consider.  Those factors are price and appearance.  I am going to share from my experience running my roofing San Diego company.

First choice of installing the new roof over the old.  When you do this you will have lumps and bumps on the roof.A few people will not mind something like that. But you need to understand if you will or not.  Ask the contractor for a couple of recent addresses where they did this. They you are able to tell whether or not the look will bother you.Understand that if this is the way you choose you can save a lot of money.  So you have to consider if it is worth it.  We have done it both ways with my Carlsbad roofing company and have had customers love both ways.

So that brings up the second option which is the price.  Whether you mind the lumps and bumps or not you have to consider if price is a factor.  In other words are you willing to have better look even if you have to pay more.Or will that extra money be important to you?Now if you do, you have to really take into account if the bumps will bother you.  Many clients in this economy have opted to save money from what I have experienced in my Encinitas roofing company.

As you can see it really comes down to how good you want it to look.  And are you willing to pay for that look.  If you need to save money go the first way. Especially if you don’t think that the looks will bother you because you aren’t so picky.
